ABOUT PRODUCTID 38352
The decorative plate 'Mexicans' is an example of Polish design from the 1950s–60s, produced by Zakłady Porcelitu in Chodzież. Measuring 32 cm in diameter and approximately 4 cm in height, the plate is crafted from porcelain stoneware with a glossy black glaze. Its surface features a composition of three stylized human figures, outlined in white, inspired by cubism and the aesthetics of Picasso, alongside geometric accents and plant motifs that emphasize the modernist spirit of the piece. The surface is smooth and highly polished, with a slightly raised edge providing harmonious proportions. The underside bears the manufacturer's mark beneath the glaze, confirming the object's authenticity. The plate is preserved in very good condition, showing no signs of use or damage. This piece seems to tell the story of an era when Polish New Look sought its own voice between Western avant-garde and domestic tradition. The geometric, elongated figures echo the postwar fascination with Picasso’s forms, while the stark black-and-white contrast creates a graphic energy typical of the period. The composition resonates with artistic boldness—this plate feels like a manifesto of openness to modernity, yet with a tenderness for everyday life. The 'Mexicans' plate can be displayed on a sideboard or in a glass cabinet, where its graphic character becomes a striking accent in the interior. It fits perfectly in mid-century modern arrangements as well as in eclectic collector spaces, where it may be combined with ceramics of simple forms or glassware in intense colors. Pairing it with matte wooden surfaces highlights the glaze’s shine, or with minimalist decor to create a home gallery of functional art.
