ABOUT PRODUCTID 36623
The 'Jaskółka' platter is a porcelain utility object crafted in the 1970s at the Chodzież Porcelain and Porcelain Factory in Poland. Model 132 A reflects modernist explorations of form – its elongated, oval silhouette with sharply defined ends evokes both a leaf and the dynamic outline of a swallow in flight, referencing its name. The main color is a deep, mirror-like black porcelain with a high-gloss finish. A minimalist interior decoration of intersecting white lines and small dots sits atop the dark background, echoing the vocabulary of mid-century modern and Polish minimalism of the era. The underside bears the factory mark “Chodzież, MADE IN POLAND” and the artist’s initials “T.T.”. The platter is preserved in very good condition, showing no visible signs of wear or damage. This piece tells the story of Polish modernism in the 1970s, a period when designers sought both simplicity and impact in everyday objects. Black and white engage in a graphic dialogue here, while the elongated form seems to hover over the table like a bird in flight – a subtle metaphor for freedom and lightness. The distinctive 'Jaskółka' motif carries the spirit of its time, when functionality and decoration intertwined in daily-use objects, shaping a new urban aesthetic. The 'Jaskółka' platter can be displayed on a low sideboard or dining table, where its glossy black surface will reflect the light beautifully. It may be paired with simple glassware or white ceramics to highlight its graphic character. The piece is well-suited to mid-century modern or minimalist arrangements, as well as eclectic collector’s interiors where detail and the story behind each object are prized.
