ABOUT PRODUCTID 17328
This large oval bas-relief portrait, cast in solid bronze, depicts Friedrich Schiller (1759–1805) in a classically inspired form. Signed by Eisenwerk Lauchhammer—a German foundry operating since 1725—it demonstrates outstanding precision: the regular, harmonious facial features and the expressive, softly curling hair evoke the neoclassical style. The patina is varied, shifting from darker, graphite-like tones on the background and edges to lighter, golden-copper accents highlighting the relief of the face and hair. A thin, uniform border frames the composition. The lower left bears a finely incised German dedication dating from 1933, linked to the Friedrichsthal Volunteer Fire Brigade and its director, Paul Schwarzer, marking the medallion as both commemorative and art-historical. The surface is smooth but nuanced, with subtle irregularities in the background and hair indicative of 19th-century casting techniques. There are no major damages—just minor patination shifts, some lighter spots from handling, and superficial scratches expected with age. The overall condition is very good, with full authenticity and no visible restoration. The medallion speaks in the voice of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Its oval, classically balanced format, with an idealized side-profile of Schiller, recalls an era when artists and craftsmen looked to antiquity for order and meaning. Commemorative plaques and portrait medallions like this carried the values of remembrance and dignity. Schiller’s own calm, thoughtful gaze seems to embody
