ABOUT PRODUCTID 36874
This signed aquatint by Marino Marini, from the 'Marini from Shakespeare' series published by ZWR London in 1978, is the fifth print out of eight in the cycle. Produced in Florence at the renowned Labyrinth studio, the piece is executed on high-quality, slightly textured Velin Rivers paper with deckled edges. The composition features two abstract, geometric human figures in bold, matte shades of red, yellow, and orange, set against a soft, cream background animated by expressive beige and yellow brushstrokes. The print is hand-signed in pencil by the artist in the lower right corner, numbered on the left (25/75), and bears an embossed stamp on the paper. The overall condition is very good, with only subtle traces of patina and minimal signs of age, no damage or restoration; the artwork has previously been displayed behind glass. This work is a visual narrative of the 1970s and the spirit of European modernism, where form becomes a language of expression and color a field of emotion. The simplified figures, restrained palette, and dynamic, spontaneous background evoke the atmosphere of artistic experimentation and the search for new modes of expression. The print speaks in the voice of an era when graphic art became an equal partner in dialogue with painting and sculpture, and Marini’s pieces are meditations on movement, gesture, and the emotive power of limited color. The print could be displayed in a living room, home gallery, or office, where its minimalist aesthetic would highlight its modernist heritage. It can be paired with a simple, neutral frame and mid-century modern furniture or contemporary pieces with clean lines. The work pairs well with other graphic art pieces to create a cohesive gallery wall, or as a standalone accent on a light-colored backdrop, allowing its bold colors and geometric form to take center stage.
