This handwoven Chinese Art Deco rug from the early 20th century exemplifies a fusion of traditional motifs and bold aesthetics. Crafted from high-quality wool, it features a dense, matte pile approximately 15 mm thick, with a knot density of around 100,000 knots per square meter. Measuring 53 × 98 cm (including fringes), the rug is compact yet impactful. The deep, saturated navy blue serves as the background, highlighting a centrally placed dragon rendered in golden yellow with a checkered pattern, accentuated by red, green, white, and blue details. The dragon's claws, mane, and facial features are defined with contrasting colors, while abstract cloud motifs, characteristic of Chinese symbolism, appear in the corners. Even, white wool fringes finish the edges.
