This antique Heriz rug, hand-knotted by nomadic weavers in the mountainous regions of southwestern Iran at the end of the 19th or the beginning of the 20th century, is an embodiment of Persian craftsmanship. Meticulously woven from dense wool on a cotton foundation (knot density approx. 160,000 knots/m2, pile thickness approx. 10 mm), the rug features a large central medallion with intricate geometric and floral motifs, surrounded by a complex field of stylized leaves, flowers, and angular vine patterns. The primary palette includes deep, warm red, rich navy blue, and accents of ivory and cream, while the wide border repeats floral and geometric ornamentation. The pile's texture is dense and matte, with subtle unevenness characteristic of hand-knotting, and the cotton warp is visible at the fringes.
