This hand-knotted Indo Ghom rug from India is crafted from silk on a cotton foundation, distinguished by its exceptionally dense, compact weave (approximately 840,000 knots/m2) and a lustrous, smooth pile measuring around 9 mm thick. The dominant tones are deep terracotta and salmon, complemented by intricate patterns in cream, beige, navy blue, olive green, light blue, soft pinks, greys, and ivory. The central section features a classic Persian medallion surrounded by elaborate arabesques and palmettes, while the wide decorative border showcases remarkable design craftsmanship. The edges are finished with traditional fringes, and the overall construction reflects meticulous handwork and the fine quality of silk fibers. The rug is preserved in good condition—there are minor signs of wear on the fringes and slight fading consistent with age, but no significant damage or repairs.This rug tells the story of Persian traditions carried to the Indian subcontinent—an echo of the historic Ghom ateliers, where weaving mastery reached its peak and silk imparted a luminous quality to textile art.
