This handwoven Kazak rug from Azerbaijan, dating to the early 20th century, exemplifies classic Caucasian craftsmanship. Made entirely of natural wool—both pile and foundation—it features a dense, tight weave (approximately 300,000 knots/m²) and a soft, slightly plush texture with a subtle sheen. The composition is defined by striking geometric motifs: a central row of large medallions in deep navy, ivory, and gold, surrounded by smaller geometric figures and stylized crosses, all characteristic of tribal Kazak aesthetics. The border consists of multiple bands, with the main ecru strip embellished by multicolored geometric accents in blue, red, gold, and green. The rug measures 115 × 163 cm including the hand-knotted fringes. Edges are finished with traditional fringe detailing.
