This antique Persian Sarough rug, measuring 138 x 210 cm including fringes, exemplifies early 20th-century handcraft from the Saruk region in western Iran. Hand-knotted from high-quality, lustrous wool on a cotton foundation, it features a dense, compact weave (approx. 200,000 knots/m²) and a smooth, subtly glossy surface. The dominant color is a deep, warm red, complemented by symmetrically arranged floral and botanical motifs in shades of blue, ivory, beige, gold, and green. The wide border, rendered in dark navy, is richly decorated with stylized floral ornaments and meandering vines in yellow, pink, and cream. The pile is approximately 10 mm thick, and the fringes are intact and evenly trimmed. The rug is in very good condition—there are no visible damages, stains, or repairs, only minor traces of gentle use and a light patina appropriate for its age.
