This Persian Sarough rug from the 1970s, handwoven in the western part of central Iran, exemplifies the classic tradition of Oriental textile craftsmanship. Constructed with a cotton foundation and a high-quality wool pile, the rug features a dense, soft texture with a subtle sheen. Measuring 118 by 225 cm (including fringes), it presents a warm brick red palette with a matte, slightly faded finish in places. The central field is adorned with a regular layout of boteh (paisley) motifs, each outlined in dark blue and filled with cream and light blue details. The borders comprise several bands: a thin dark blue inner line, a broad cream band with intricate floral and vine ornamentation in red, blue, and beige, and an outermost strip of solid brick red. Short off-white cotton fringes finish the shorter edges.
