ABOUT PRODUCTID 42235
This antique Shirvan rug from the Eastern Caucasus, dated circa 1900, is a hand-knotted piece measuring approximately 90 x 120 cm, crafted using the traditional symmetric ghiordes knot with a wool pile on a wool foundation. The central design features a pointed red mihrab niche, framed by geometric motifs, archaic hooked diamonds, and small rosettes. The three-tiered border, adorned with stylized chalices, angular leaves, and intricate geometric patterns, epitomizes the tribal East Caucasian aesthetic. Its color palette is dominated by deep, saturated indigo, intense madder red, and natural ivory, offset by accents of blue, brown, yellow, and green. The matte surface displays pronounced abrash—tonal variations typical of hand-dyed wool. The pile is low and even, with noble, balanced wear in line with its age, while the edges and fringes reveal minor irregularities and signs of use. The overall structure remains cohesive and stable, with no evidence of modern repairs. Condition: good –
