This Biedermeier salt cellar, dating from 1830-1860, exemplifies Austrian 19th-century craftsmanship by blending the clarity of cut glass with the decorative qualities of silver. The crystal bowl features a faceted, plane-cut surface with a pronounced, bevelled rim, resting atop a robust, square silver pedestal that is repoussé-worked and internally filled. The foot is adorned with floral and foliate relief motifs typical of the Biedermeier style, emphasizing its sculptural and ornamental character. The transition between the bowl and base is smooth, with a gently flared collar securely supporting the glass. The proportions are harmonious: the broad, shallow bowl contrasts with the solid, decorative base. The silver retains a subtly patinated, cool sheen.
