This Art Nouveau salt cellar in the form of a swan exemplifies the masterful craftsmanship of the German WMF manufactory at the dawn of the 20th century. Created around 1905, it features an organic, naturalistic silhouette— a slender, elegantly curved swan body with finely sculpted feathers and a gracefully arched neck, embodying the fluidity and ornamentation typical of the Secessionist style. The exterior presents a cool, silvery finish in silver-plated pewter with a subtle satin sheen, while the interior is gilded, offering a warm golden accent visible at the opening. The construction is seamless and cohesive, with no visible joints, and the set includes a small, 7 cm spoon from the Austro-Hungarian Sandrik manufactory. The salt cellar measures 6 cm in height, 7.5 cm in length, and 4 cm in width. The condition is very good— the surface is well preserved, with only minimal signs of use consistent with age, no visible damage, and no evidence of restoration.This salt cellar seems to whisper the story of the Belle Époque, a time when art permeated daily life and utilitarian objects became small works of art.
