ABOUT PRODUCTID 1681
The Empire sauce boat, designed by B. Wysocki and J. Steckiewicz for the Ćmielów Porcelain Factory in the 1930s, exemplifies refined Polish interwar design. Made of ivory-white, glazed porcelain with a soft, creamy undertone, it stands out with fluid lines and balanced proportions. The large, upwardly curved handle, richly adorned with high-gloss 24-carat gold, dominates the form and accentuates its neoclassical character. Delicate, hand-painted floral motifs in pastel shades are evenly distributed on the body and attached underplate, while a gilded rim completes the composition. The sauce boat measures 19 cm in height, 25 cm in length, and 14.5 cm in width. The porcelain is smooth and finely glazed, with no visible signs of wear or damage—preserved in excellent condition, with all gilding and painted decoration perfectly intact. This piece echoes the voice of an era when classical aesthetics signified prestige and ceremony. Its sculptural silhouette recalls the forms of ancient vases, while the subtle painted motifs evoke the tradition of court porcelain. It is an object that could tell stories of Polish residences, festive dinners, and moments of celebration—within the lustrous gilding linger traces of bygone elegance and meticulous attention to detail. The sauce boat can be displayed on a classic console or in a glass-fronted cabinet, where its gilding will catch daylight or the glow of a lamp. It would complement a full Empire or neoclassical dinner service, or contrast gracefully with plain white porcelain for a play on textures. It can be paired with crystal glassware and silver cutlery for an arrangement inspired by prewar sophistication, or juxtaposed with modern, minimalist forms to highlight its decorative presence.
