ABOUT PRODUCTID 2763
This sculpture of Don Quixote by M. Markowski, crafted in Poland during the 1980s, combines wood and metal in a highly stylized composition. The piece depicts the literary hero in full armor, seated atop his horse, holding a long lance in his right hand and a shield in his left. A deep, natural brown dominates the wood, contrasted by cool, silvery metal elements that cover much of the surface in overlapping scales. Both Don Quixote’s armor and the horse’s body are adorned with these metal scales, lending the object a dynamic, almost fantastical texture. The overall style is eclectic, blending expressive folk art influences with modernist abstraction. Proportions are deliberately exaggerated: the horse is elongated and geometric, with a sharply arched back and a stylized mane and tail formed from bent metal rods. Don Quixote’s face is angular, marked by a pointed beard and a dramatic helmet with a plume. Dimensions are 59.5 cm high, 73 cm long, and 16.
