ABOUT PRODUCTID 17523
This art deco secretary cabinet, designed by Jindřich Halabala, exemplifies 1930s Czech modernism that fused functionality with luxury craftsmanship. The construct features a strict, rectilinear cubic form with subtly rounded corners, elevated by geometric marquetry: a checkerboard motif of alternating squares crafted from two shades of wood set against a saturated honey-toned background. Rich, near-black accents define the side strips and base, as well as the substantial round handles, providing strong contrast with the lighter front and underscoring the decorative discipline of the era. The two doors, lockable with a key, conceal shelves and inner compartments, while the semi-gloss finish draws out the wood grain and affords a smooth surface. All structural elements are precisely joined, with integrated lock and understated hardware. The cabinet is preserved in very good vintage condition – with no notable signs of wear or damage and all original details present, indicating careful maintenance or gentle prior use.The piece seems to speak in the voice of the golden age of art deco – evoking the optimism of the 1930s, where modernity met refined ornamentation. The geometric marquetry and gleaming surface project a composed energy; the secretary subtly suggests an orderly daily life, each touchpoint designed for a tactile dialogue with authentic material. Its curved corners and rich contrasts conjure the ambiance of interwar European salons, where durability and practicality were matched by aesthetic discipline. The cabinet may be displayed as a focal piece in a living room, especially against a light wall to let the marquetry come alive in natural daylight. It can be paired with a black lacquered table lamp or a
