ABOUT PRODUCTID 42739
This elongated, gondola-shaped serving dish was produced by Fraget in Warsaw around 1910, representing Polish silver-plated metalwork at the intersection of late Art Nouveau and early Art Deco. Made of silver-plated white brass, it features a cool, silvery-white hue with a high-gloss, reflective finish. The upper rim is adorned with geometric, cut-out decorative elements—rectangular and linear perforations arranged in a repeating rhythm that gives the piece a sense of lightness. The form is long and shallow, with gently upturned ends and a wide, low profile, executed without visible joints or handles. The base is plain and marked with the FRAGET/MB/PLAQUE hallmark. The condition is very good, with only minor traces of age such as subtle patina and small spots of tarnish, but no damage or signs of repair. This serving dish seems to narrate a moment when Warsaw’s artisanal tradition met the emerging modernity of early Art Deco. Its mirror-like surface reflects light, while the geometric cut-outs play with shadows—inviting contemplation on the elegance of a bygone era. The restrained form and ornamentation echo a move away from the ornate excesses of Art Nouveau toward the ordered discipline of new styles. The dish can serve as a focal point on a dining table or as an understated accent on a console or sideboard in the living room. It would pair well with classic porcelain services or act as a foil for minimalist, modern forms. Arranging it with white textiles, glass, or dark wood will enhance its cool sheen, while displaying it in a collector’s cabinet will highlight its historical and artistic significance.
