Created in Vienna around 1890, this late 19th-century serving fork exemplifies the transition from Historicism to the emerging Art Nouveau. Its construction combines forged steel for the shaft and tines—displaying a cool, matte grey finish—with a handle in white brass, characterized by a warm silvery-white hue with a satin-matte surface and subtle reliefs. The most striking feature is the spring-loaded bronze mechanism, radiating a rich golden tone and composed of several articulated levers and spherical finials arranged in a symmetrical pattern. The hand-crafted nature is evident in the visible rivets, meticulously joined components, and harmonious proportions (length: 24 cm). Functionality is enhanced by the spring mechanism, which eases the process of picking up and serving food, while the overall design reflects the decorative sensibility of late 19th-century Viennese craftsmanship.
