ABOUT PRODUCTID 20646
This serving spatula, produced by WMF in Württemberg in the second half of the 19th century, exemplifies the Neo-Rococo revival in German tableware. Made of silver-plated white metal, it features a cool, silvery-white tone with a soft, matte-satin surface. The blade is adorned with intricate, hand-engraved guilloché patterns of scrolling foliage and a central stylized dolphin motif, while the handle displays asymmetrical, flowing Rococo curves, volutes, and shell-like elements typical of late 19th-century historicist design. The proportions are elongated and elegant: a wide, gently curved blade transitions seamlessly into a slender, sculpted handle. The surface is smooth with subtle relief on the decorative accents, and the overall construction is solid and cohesive. The manufacturer's mark confirms authenticity. The spatula is preserved in very good, original condition, with only a delicate patina consistent with age and no visible signs of damage or heavy use. This object, captured in the decorative form of a serving spatula, tells the story of the late 19th century—a time when European households valued elaborate patterns and artisanal skill. The dolphin motif, emerging from among swirling ornaments like a figure from a mythological tale, adds a note of fantasy, while the irregular lines and shell motifs recall the theatricality
