This set of twelve chairs, designed by Antonín Šuman and produced by Tatra Nabytok in Czechoslovakia during the 1960s, is a prime example of Central European mid-century modern design. Each chair features a lightweight, bent plywood backrest in a warm honey-brown shade with pronounced wood grain and a subtle semi-gloss finish. The signature keyhole cutout in the backrest introduces a sculptural, instantly recognizable detail characteristic of Šuman’s work. The legs, crafted from solid oak in a slightly lighter, golden tone, are elegantly tapered, emphasizing the chair’s visual lightness. The seats are upholstered in high-quality fabric—described as either light beige or dark grey—with a subtle, finely textured weave that forms a harmonious contrast with the warm wood.
