ABOUT PRODUCTID 27715
This set of Dax armchairs, designed in the 1970s by Charles and Ray Eames for the Swiss manufacturer Vitra, epitomizes the mature mid-century modern style infused with a touch of space age. Each chair rests on a signature H-base chrome frame, which imparts an industrial lightness while ensuring stability. The molded fiberglass shells are upholstered in a tightly woven, chocolate brown fabric with a matte, subtly cool finish. The seat and backrest are cloaked in this deep brown tone, contrasted by the shell’s light cream exterior, creating a striking two-tone effect. The upholstery has a slightly coarse texture, and the wide seat and smoothly curved armrests highlight the chair’s ergonomic, functional silhouette. The original manufacturer’s label is found beneath the seat. The set is preserved in very good vintage condition, with minor age-appropriate signs of use and a small hole in the upholstery of one cushion. These chairs evoke the optimism of the 1970s, a time when new technologies were embraced alongside the comforts of daily life. The molded fiberglass shell and cool chrome reflect an era fascinated by the future, while the matte fabric softens the technological edge, absorbing light and lending a calming tone to the interior. Every seam and curved line speaks to an age when design was meant to be democratic, friendly, and ready to serve generations. The Dax armchair tells a story of pragmatism and bold faith in progress, without losing respect for skilled craftsmanship. The Dax armchairs can be paired with geometric coffee tables from the 1970s or
