ABOUT PRODUCTID 15733
This pair of bookends from the 1960s combines classic retro style with motifs inspired by the golden age of world exploration. Each bookend features an L-shaped base of solid wood in a warm, medium brown shade with a matte finish characteristic of mid-century design. The geometric simplicity of the form ensures both visual clarity and functional stability. At the center, a miniature globe is mounted on a papier-mâché or composite core, clad in printed paper with antique-style mapping: muted yellows, beiges, and tans, accented by green, red, and brown contours for continents and decorative cartouches. The globes are embraced by dark, almost black meridian rings with red latitude numerals, completed by brass-toned finials at the poles. Subtle signs of age and gentle patina on the mapping paper highlight the set’s authenticity, while the visible hardware and joinery remain intact and sturdy. The bookends are in very good condition, with only minor traces of use consistent with quality vintage objects from the 1960s. These bookends evoke the spirit of an era when shelves and study walls were lined with globes, maps, and souvenirs from far-off lands. The decorative, cartographic surfaces recall the close of the modernist age, blending a sense of geographic adventure with the rationality of functional objects. The linear rendering of continents, the black meridian, and brass-finished details create an atmosphere of scholarly calm—as if every book placed between these ends tells its own story of discovery and distant worlds. The globe bookends can be positioned
