ABOUT PRODUCTID 6162
This set of six bowls from 1930s Indonesia is crafted from polished buffalo horn, blending a translucent, honey-beige palette with silver Djokja accents featuring finely hand-engraved botanical and geometric motifs. The set includes one larger bowl (19 × 8 × 4 cm) and five smaller ones (10 × 5 × 2 cm), each distinguished by an organic, gently asymmetrical form and a smooth, glossy surface that reflects light and reveals the unique patterning and striations of the horn. The crescent-shaped silver elements, likely made from unmarked, recycled coin silver, retain a deep, aged patina, lending authenticity and character. All bowls are seamless in construction, with subtle traces of handcrafting visible. Signs of age include an old crack on one bowl and some rusted steel nails. The ensemble remains in very good condition, preserving the original patina and period features. Slight asymmetries and irregular coloration evoke respect for the raw material, and the darkened silver patina highlights the passage of time without diminishing the objects’ authenticity. Each bowl is a moment frozen in time, bridging artisanal skill with the decorative refinement of an era shaped by both colonial influences and indigenous artistry. The set could be displayed on a low console made of exotic wood, where the warm horn hues play against a darker backdrop. These bowls pair well with
