This set of four chairs, designed by Jan Bocan, Zbynek Hrivnac, and Ludvik Volak, was produced by Dřevopodnik Holešov in Czechoslovakia in 1970. Each chair is constructed from bent plywood, finished with a warm, medium-brown mahogany veneer that highlights the wood grain with a subtle satin sheen. The seats and backrests are upholstered in matte fabric—two in a deep, cool-toned purple and two in a saturated teal blue—with a smooth, even texture. The design is marked by geometric, sculptural lines and an organic, flowing silhouette. Straight, robust legs contrast with the elegantly curved backrests and seat supports, giving the set a dynamic presence. Visible metal fasteners at the joints introduce an understated industrial touch and underscore the craftsmanship of the piece. The chairs are in excellent, fully restored condition—all elements remain authentic and have been professionally refinished, with no signs of amateur repairs or non-original parts. These chairs embody the spirit of 1970s modernism, an era defined by bold forms and vibrant color exploration. The bent plywood construction finished in mahogany recalls Ludvik Volak's iconic partition walls—where lightness meets engineering precision. The interplay of purple and teal upholstery against the satin wood seems to narrate a story of searching for harmony between function and expression. The metal hardware serves as a reminder that the design sensibility of the time embraced technology as a full partner in creative innovation. The set may be paired with a
