ABOUT PRODUCTID 8475
This set of four chairs, designed by Antonin Suman for Tatra Nabytok in 1960s Czechoslovakia, exemplifies Central European mid-century modernism. The sturdy wooden frames are finished in a warm, medium brown with a visible grain pattern and a matte-satin sheen, highlighting the natural qualities of the material. Each backrest features five slender vertical slats, gently curved and set within a rounded rectangular frame for ergonomic support. The seats are upholstered in a mustard yellow fabric with a tactile, slightly coarse texture. The legs, subtly tapered and splayed, lend visual lightness and stability. The craftsmanship is evident in the precise joinery, with no visible screws or metal fittings. The set is preserved in very good vintage condition, showing only minor signs of use characteristic of authentic pieces from the era: slight wear to the wood and gentle creasing on the upholstery, with no major damage or repairs. These four chairs capture the spirit of the 1960s, when Czech design blended functionality with a keen sense of proportion and color. The mustard upholstery evokes memories of home dining rooms and gatherings around the table, while the open, harmonious form suggests an invitation to conversation. Wood and fabric together speak a language of everyday life filtered through the lens of modernist ideals: unpretentiousness, durability, and the natural beauty of materials. These are pieces that seem to invite calm conversation
