ABOUT PRODUCTID 15015
A set of six porcelain cups with saucers produced in the 1960s in Loučky, former Czechoslovakia, designed by Jaroslav Ježek and attributed also to Václav Dolejš. The service reflects mid-century modern style, combining geometric simplicity with decorative tradition. The cups are slender, cylindrical, and finished with a subtle handle, while the flat saucers have gently elevated rims—all crafted from white porcelain with a smooth, glazed surface. The most striking feature is the hand-painted cobalt blue peacocks, accompanied by refined botanical motifs and delicate gold accents outlining the rims. Each element clearly exhibits the period’s original character, including the visible texture of the painting and the refined porcelain gloss. Condition: very good, with a minor chip on the rim of one cup. The form of the set evokes a time when European craftsmanship entered into dialogue with modernity: the severe geometry is softened by ornamentation far from arbitrariness. Cobalt peacocks appear as fragments of artistic mosaic—disciplined yet composing a fanciful rhythm against the porcelain’s white. Gold lines temper the contrast, hinting at the light of bygone decades and the home rituals in which detail mattered. This set may be arranged on a classic dining table as easily as it could complement more contemporary settings—such as on smooth, light-colored countertops to highlight the vibrancy of cobalt. It pairs well with glassware, classic silver cutlery, and linen textiles, as well as mid-century pieces: wooden side tables, simple metal candlesticks, or set against a wall in serene turquoise or vanilla tones. One could match it with ceramics in contrasting hues or a solitary silver jug to emphasize its vintage touch while maintaining aesthetic harmony.
