ABOUT PRODUCTID 20775
This collectible glass set, designed by J. Rozinek for the Novy Bor glassworks, exemplifies Czechoslovakian design from the 1970s. The set includes a tall vase (29 cm high) and a low bowl or ashtray (14 cm long), both crafted from thick, hand-blown glass. The primary tone is clear, transparent glass, within which dynamic, layered color accents are embedded: a vibrant green at the base, blending into shades of blue and subtle pink-violet, especially visible in the bowl. The surfaces are highly polished, enhancing the clarity and depth of the glass. Both pieces feature organic, asymmetrical, sculptural lines typical of mid-century modern: the vase is rectangular with rounded edges and a gently tapered top, while the bowl is wide, rounded, and supported by a thick, stable base. The set shows no signs of wear, damage, or restoration and remains in excellent condition. These pieces evoke an era when color and form were at the forefront of modern design. The colors suspended within the glass recall the artistic experiments of the 1970s, as designers sought to explore the interplay of light and material. The smooth gradation of hues encased in thick glass seems to freeze motion, while the glossy surfaces reflect their surroundings like a sheet of water—objects that speak in the language of modernist Czechoslovakia, balancing craftsmanship with artistic expression. The set would be well-suited to a low console or sideboard in a living room, where daylight can highlight the depth and color layering. It could be paired with other glass or ceramic pieces from the 1960s and 1970s to create a curated display. The ensemble also works effectively against pale wood furniture or alongside minimalist metal accessories, making it suitable for mid-century modern interiors or eclectic collector’s spaces.
