ABOUT PRODUCTID 20282
A set of six dessert plates from the 'Asteroid' series, designed by Jan Sylwester Drost and produced by Huta Szkła Gospodarczego 'Ząbkowice' in the 1960s, exemplifies Polish mid-century modern tableware. Each plate is crafted from pressed, mass-colored soda glass in a cool, translucent blue shade. The color gently transitions from a deeper blue at the center to a lighter tone towards the edges, enhancing the impression of depth. The circular form with a delicately upturned rim and the distinctive raised bubble motif in the center create a dynamic, tactile surface inspired by asteroid craters. The glossy finish highlights the clarity of the glass and the play of light on its surface. The set is preserved in very good vintage condition, without chips, cracks, or signs of wear. These plates tell the story of 1960s Polish modernism, a period when fascination with space exploration and material experimentation permeated everyday objects. The 'Asteroid' design conjures associations with distant planets and the adventure of discovering new forms – the glass, sometimes cool, sometimes radiant, reflects the freshness and boldness of the era’s designers. Every detail – from the gentle protrusions to the gradient in color – seems to echo the dreams of a future that shaped the creative imagination of the time,
