This set of eight dining chairs with armrests, made in Germany in the early 1990s, embodies the principles of late modernism and minimalism characteristic of the transition from the 1980s to the 1990s. The construction is based on bent plywood veneered in a deep chocolate brown with a semi-matte finish and visible wood grain. The wide seats and tall, rectangular backrests are upholstered in a synthetic fabric in a grey-taupe tone with a subtle mélange structure, featuring a distinctly woven, matte texture. Each backrest is accented by two fabric-covered buttons, adding rhythm and depth to the silhouette. The bent armrests and absence of visible metal fittings highlight the coherence of the design and the precision of craftsmanship. The set’s proportions remain harmonious, with softly rounded edges completing the composition. The chairs are in good vintage condition—there are only minor abrasions on the fabric and slight signs of use on the wood, with no major damage or interventions; the upholstery and finish remain original.This set echoes the voice of a turning era, when function and simplicity began to dominate interior design. Its form speaks of a time when the comfort of everyday gatherings and the openness of space became central, while the bent plywood craftsmanship reflects respect for material and structural lightness.
