This set of eight 'Calcar' dining chairs, designed by Benoit Lange in Belgium during the 1990s, embodies a distinctly postmodern approach rooted in artisanal woodworking traditions. Each chair is crafted entirely from solid wood, with no metal fittings, highlighting the precision and authenticity of handcraft. The high, ladder-backrests with evenly spaced horizontal slats establish a vertical, almost monumental profile, while the gently outcurved front legs introduce a subtle rhythm. The rear legs remain straight, ensuring stability and reinforcing the geometric clarity. The warm, honey-brown finish is semi-matte, allowing the natural wood grain to remain prominent and tactile, and the softly rounded edges lend a sculptural softness. The joinery is visible and meticulous, with the absence of ornamentation
