This set of five side tables, designed by Poul Hundevad for Novy domov in Czechoslovakia in the 1960s, exemplifies timeless and functional Mid-Century Modern design. The ensemble consists of a rectangular 'mother' table and four smaller, folding tables that nest underneath. The tabletops are veneered in teak, while the legs and structural elements are crafted from solid beech, creating a cohesive, warm honey-brown tone with a pronounced wood grain. The finish is satin to semi-matte, emphasizing the natural texture, and the subtly rounded edges and tapered legs reference 1960s Scandinavian aesthetics. The main table is fitted with discreet brass-and-black castors, while the small tables feature cross-braced supports for stability. The set is in good condition, showing localized patina, minor scuffs, and light scratches consistent with age, refreshed and preserved in its original finish.
