ABOUT PRODUCTID 11710
This set of four armchairs, designed by Peter Hvidt and Orla Mølgaard-Nielsen for Søborg Møbelfabrik in the 1950s, exemplifies classic Danish mid-century modern design. The frames are crafted from teak wood in a warm, medium tone, finished with Danish oil that enhances the visible grain and natural texture. The sculpted, gently curved backrests and seamlessly integrated, rounded armrests showcase superior craftsmanship. Slender, cylindrical legs are connected by horizontal stretchers, ensuring stability and balanced proportions. The seats are upholstered in Kvadrat’s hallingdal wool fabric in a salt-and-pepper blend of grey and black, offering a soft, matte contrast to the teak. The set is in excellent condition—fully restored with preserved wood patina and new upholstery. The armchairs evoke the spirit of mid-century Scandinavia, when function and form coexisted and craftsmanship was marked by attention to subtle details. Their organic lines and smooth transitions recall a design ethos where comfort and visual harmony were equally valued. The teak frames and textured upholstery appear to “speak” of calm, orderly interiors of the 1950s, where every element had its place and daily life was thoughtfully curated. These chairs would suit a living room styled in the mid-century modern spirit, paired with a low teak sideboard or a minimalist coffee table with simple lines. They can be combined with a fabric-shaded lamp or graphic textiles in geometric patterns. Consider placing them alongside potted greenery and discreet glass or ceramic accents to highlight the balance between natural materials and restrained form.
