ABOUT PRODUCTID 28352
This set of four Model 3103 Hammer Chairs, designed by Arne Jacobsen for Fritz Hansen in the 1960s, is a quintessential example of Danish modernism. Each chair features a black powder-coated steel frame that contrasts with the molded teak plywood seat and backrest. The design is defined by its ergonomic shaping, cut-out backrest, and gently rounded edges, combining comfort with visual lightness. The teak veneer has a subtle satin sheen, highlighting the natural wood grain, while the proportions – 41 × 41 × 78 cm – are well-suited to both compact and open-plan spaces. The chairs are stackable, making them a practical solution for both residential and public interiors. Minor signs of age are visible, such as small scratches and patina on the wood and metal, consistent with the 1960s origin. The set remains in good vintage condition. The curved forms, light lines, and interplay of black and warm wood speak of the golden age of Scandinavian design. These chairs echo the voice of the 1960s: “Our strength lies in the harmony of simplicity and function.” Sitting in them, one senses the careful balance between form and utility; the cut-out back and flexible plywood seem to invite everyday, relaxed use. The teak seat conjures images of airy Danish interiors, where every object had its justified place. The 3103 set works equally well in a mid-century modern dining room or in more eclectic, collector’s spaces. It can be paired with a large wooden table on slender legs, minimalist matte-finished lamps, or Scandinavian shelving in pale wood. These chairs also suit open-plan living areas, combining well with geometric textiles or single, bold color accents, allowing their timeless character to shine through.
