The set of four Model GA chairs, designed by Hans Bellmann for Horgen Glarus in Switzerland during the 1950s, exemplifies the functional modernism of post-war Europe. Each chair is crafted from a single piece of molded plywood in a warm honey-brown shade, with distinct wood grain and a semi-matte finish that enhances the natural character of the material. A vertical slit runs through the center of both the backrest and seat, serving as a visual accent and improving ergonomic comfort while lending a sense of lightness to the form. The legs are slender, round steel tubes finished in matte black, slightly splayed for stability and attached to the seat with visible brackets – a nod to the industrial influences of the era. The silhouette is geometric, with balanced proportions and honest construction, where every element is subordinated to function. The set is preserved in very good vintage condition, with only minor signs of use in the form of small scuffs on the legs and edges, without any major damage or intervention to the original structure.Model GA speaks with the voice of an era that sought modernity through the authenticity of materials and construction.
