ABOUT PRODUCTID 25092
This set of four No. 14 chairs represents the essence of Viennese Secession style, designed by Josef Hoffmann and manufactured by Thonet around 1900 in Austria. The construction utilizes the innovative bentwood technique, resulting in elegantly curved, flowing lines in both the backrests and slender legs, which are joined by a circular stretcher for stability. The wood is finished in a warm, medium walnut brown with a subtle reddish undertone and a semi-matte sheen that accentuates the natural grain and smoothness of the material. The seats are crafted from woven rattan in a light honey color, offering a delicate color contrast and a sense of visual lightness. All joints are seamless, consistent with Thonet’s bentwood tradition, and no visible screws or metal fittings are present. The set has undergone professional restoration: the wood has been carefully refinished and protected, while the original rattan seats remain in outstanding condition, displaying only the lightest signs of use. These chairs embody the spirit of early 20th-century Vienna, an era when the city was a crucible of new artistic and social ideas. The No. 14 model speaks in the language of its time, where simplicity and functionality met the finesse of fine craftsmanship. The gently curved silhouettes evoke the Secession’s fascination with nature, while the tactile quality of the wood and the uniform weave of the rattan conjure the slow-paced ambiance of grand cafés, where such chairs silently witnessed the rhythm of urban life and conversation. The set can be incorporated into a classically appointed living
