A set of four Thonet S33 chairs, designed by Mart Stam, represents one of the most iconic Bauhaus designs from the late 1920s. These chairs are distinguished by their cantilevered construction, crafted from a single piece of bent, chrome-plated steel tubing that forms both the legs and the support for the seat and backrest. The deep, glossy black of the seat and back, made from taut, smooth plastic, contrasts with the metallic silver of the polished frame. The design is minimalist and geometric, free of unnecessary ornamentation, while the proportions create a floating effect thanks to the cantilevered base. Characteristic of modernism, the clarity of lines and focus on function are evident—the chair lacks a rear set of legs, allowing the frame to flex subtly with use. The condition is described as good: minor patina and slight creasing on the seat surfaces are visible, but all components remain original and true to the period.
