This set of four S44 dining chairs, designed by Giancarlo Vegni for Fasem in the 1980s, exemplifies Italian modernism in its vintage incarnation. The construction is based on a black steel frame with a subtly matte finish, with slender, slightly splayed legs emphasizing the geometric proportions. Both seat and tall, rectangular backrest are upholstered in genuine leather in a deep, cool shade of black, with a semi-gloss sheen that highlights the quality of the material. The armrests, crafted from bent metal tubing, are capped with rounded leather pads for comfortable support. Visible, precise welds on the frame attest to the solidity of the construction, while the chairs retain all original elements and materials. The leather displays natural patina and gentle creasing, particularly on the backrests, as evidence of light, age-appropriate use. The set is in very good condition, with only minor signs of time and no significant damage.
