This set of four dining chairs from 1960s Germany is a direct expression of brutalist design principles in the mid-century modern era. Crafted entirely from solid wood, the seats and backrests are made from thick, flat planks with vivid wood grain and natural knots, finished in a semi-gloss that emphasizes their organic character. The frames and legs are constructed from irregular, raw branches in a darker, matte brown, joined by visible dowels and cross braces. The robust proportions – wide seats (48 cm), tall, undulating backrests (92 cm), and a depth of 55 cm – highlight both the functional and decorative potential of the chairs. Construction details such as tool marks, asymmetry, and raw edges reinforce the artisanal authenticity of the set. The condition is very good: only minor signs of use, small scratches, and a natural patina are visible, with no repairs or alterations.These chairs echo the spirit of the 1960s, when brutalism in design emphasized material honesty and bold form.
