ABOUT PRODUCTID 19590
This set of nine Quinta chairs, designed by Mario Botta for Alias in 1985, stands as an emblem of Italian postmodernism—melding function and sculptural form in equal measure. The construction is based on a black steel frame finished in consistent, matte powder coating. The seats and backrests are crafted from perforated sheet steel, highlighted by a graphic pattern of rectangular cut-outs. The profile is dominated by sharp, rectilinear lines, while the chair’s sides gently curve into continuous semi-circular arcs—introducing a subtle interplay between linear geometry and curvature. Visible connections and welds accentuate the industrial nature of the design, with no upholstery or soft elements present. Armrests are seamlessly integrated with the frame, sloping downwards for support, and the slender legs evoke a sense of visual lightness. The chairs are in very good vintage condition—the surface remains consistent, showing only slight, age-appropriate traces of use. There is no rust, patina, or sign of repair, attesting to both authenticity and careful preservation of the original.
These chairs echo the voice of Italy in the 1980s: Botta's architectural bravado is expressed through raw materials and unambiguous structural clarity. They bring to mind the atmosphere of a contemporary art gallery—these are not background furnishings,
