ABOUT PRODUCTID 26497
This set of six stackable armchairs from the 1960s, designed by Gijs Van Der Sluis, reflects the minimalist and industrial design ethos of mid-century Dutch furniture. The chairs feature a tubular metal frame in a cool, brushed matte silver finish, paired with seats and curved backrests crafted from plywood stained in a deep, semi-matte navy blue. The wood grain subtly shows through the blue stain, adding a gentle organic texture to the otherwise precise geometry. Armrests are capped with black plastic or Bakelite, offering both functional support and a visual accent. Exposed screw connections at the corners of the backrest and seat emphasize the utilitarian nature of the construction, while the wide seat and slightly reclined backrest provide comfort for dining or work. The stackable design allows for flexible storage and arrangement. The set remains in good vintage condition, with minor traces of use such as light scuffs on the metal and a subtle patina on the wood, but no major damage or repairs. These chairs speak in the voice of the 1960s: an era that valued clarity of line and honest function. The rhythmic frames and cool navy tones evoke a time when design aimed to be accessible and unpretentious. Metal, wood, and plastic engage in a quiet dialogue, free of superfluous ornamentation, leaving space for daily rituals at the table or focused work sessions. The chairs can be paired with a simple wooden table in either a light or dark finish
