ABOUT PRODUCTID 26601
This set of six dining chairs, produced in Germany in the 1970s, is a distinct example of brutalist furniture design, where solid, geometric forms are paired with a craftsman's precision. The construction is entirely of solid wood in a warm, medium-dark brown hue with a semi-gloss finish that highlights the natural wood grain and subtle tonal transitions. The seats are upholstered in a new, grey woven fabric with a pronounced texture, providing a soft visual and tactile contrast to the robust wooden frames. The backs are composed of two horizontal slats, with the upper one featuring sculptural rectangular cut-outs, while the thick, slightly splayed legs are joined by sturdy stretchers. Visible, strong joinery and dowels underscore the honesty of the construction, while the wide seats and clearly supportive backs ensure comfort in use. The set is preserved in very good vintage condition, with only minimal traces of use typical for authentic 1970s furniture, and shows no visible damage or signs of restoration. These chairs unmistakably echo the voice of the 1970s, when German design abandoned ornamentation in favor of material and functional integrity. The austere lines of the legs and the rhythmic, architectural cut-outs in the backs reflect the language of brutalism, with each element conveying a sense of durability and stability. Each chair, much like the architecture of that era,
