ABOUT PRODUCTID 9612
This set of six Model 42 chairs, designed by Kai Kristiansen for Schou-Andersen in Denmark between 1956 and 1957, exemplifies the craftsmanship of Scandinavian modernism from the 1960s. Each chair is constructed with a rosewood frame in a deep, warm brown with subtle reddish undertones and a satin finish that enhances the natural wood grain. The slender, tapered legs, organic lines, and sculptural armrests that flow seamlessly into the backrest are hallmarks of Kristiansen’s design. The upholstery components have been replaced—both the seats and shaped backrests are covered in new, high-grade black natural leather, providing a balanced contrast and reinforcing the minimalist character of the piece. All joinery remains invisible, while the proportions are harmonious and ergonomic, with a slightly reclined backrest for user comfort. The set is in restored condition, with no visible damage or signs of use—the wood surface is silky smooth and the leather taut, free of wear.
