The set of six Totem chairs, designed by Torstein Nilsen for Norwegian manufacturer Westnofa in the 1980s, exemplifies Scandinavian postmodernism. The construction features robust, matte black wooden frames with dramatic, fan-shaped backrests made up of numerous slender, evenly spaced rods that flare outward, creating a sculptural and graphic silhouette characteristic of the Space Age aesthetic. The seats are upholstered in their original mint green fabric with a subtle geometric pattern, providing a refined contrast to the dark frames. Two of the chairs are fitted with gently curved black wooden armrests, adding functionality and subtle visual distinction within the set. Distinctive high backs, pronounced geometric lines, and a play of light and shadow make these chairs both utilitarian and decorative. The set is preserved in good vintage condition—only minor traces of typical use, such as slight scuffing on the legs and edges, are visible, with no major damage
