This set of six dining chairs, designed by Gastone Rinaldi for Thema, Italy, exemplifies the bold lines of Italian postmodernism from the 1980s. The construction features robust, matte black metal frames with sharply defined, geometric silhouettes. Tall rectangular openwork backrests and distinctly angular legs lend each chair an architectural presence. The seats are upholstered in smooth, light beige genuine leather, gently padded and subtly contoured for comfort. Detailing includes visible welds and metal joinery, while each chair bears an original label confirming its authenticity. The set is preserved in very good condition, with only minor signs of age-related wear on leather and metal, free from major defects. These chairs narrate the story of a decade when postmodernism introduced daring dialogues between form and function. The tall, open frames and dynamic leg structure recall the spirit of Italian modernism, which in the 1980s embraced contrasts: the softness of leather meets the cool, industrial metal, and geometric discipline is softened by the gentle curve of the seat. Their presence brings visual lightness and a sense of architectural confidence to a space, as if declaring, “The courage of design begins with a bold gesture.” The Gastone Rinaldi set works well in minimalist or eclectic late twentieth-century interiors. It can be paired with a large, simple solid wood or glass table to highlight the material contrast
