ABOUT PRODUCTID 9899
The set of six Rungstedlund chairs was created by Poul Jeppesen Møbelfabrik in Denmark, based on Ole Wanscher’s 1960s design. The structure is made of solid mahogany, stained to a rosewood tone and finished with a satin lacquer that reveals the wood grain and lends a subtle sheen. The seats are upholstered in matte black natural leather, offering a tactile contrast to the wooden frames. Notable features include gently curved backrests and tapered, slightly splayed legs. The joinery and transitions between elements are executed with precision, showcasing the craftsmanship of Danish mid-century furniture. Seat height is 44 cm, and the silhouette retains the balanced proportions typical of dining chairs from the era. The set is in excellent condition—fully restored by carpentry and upholstery specialists, with no visible signs of wear. These chairs evoke the narrative of Scandinavian modernism, where refined materiality and simplicity of form coexisted. Wanscher designed them for Rungstedlund—the home of Karen Blixen—aiming for light elegance and everyday usability. The visible wood grain and subtly sculpted shapes capture the spirit of 1960s Denmark, where practicality and noble materials were as important as aesthetics. The leather seats and the organic curve of the backrest suggest a readiness for decades of shared meals and conversation. The Rungstedlund set can be paired with a simple wooden table—either light or dark—to highlight the deep wood tone and the matte leather. These chairs are well-suited for mid-century modern interiors but may also serve as a strong accent in more eclectic settings, combined, for example, with a geometric rug or a lamp with a metal base. They could be complemented by accessories in natural materials: a wool throw, ceramics in neutral tones, or graphic art
