ABOUT PRODUCTID 16727
This set of three Scheurich ceramic vases exemplifies the iconic German 'fat lava' style of the 1970s. Crafted from stoneware clay using handwork techniques, each piece is distinguished by thickly formed rims and refined foot rings. The tallest vase (24 cm) features a broad, flared neck, creamy base, and dense brown speckling, resulting in a dynamic, organic effect. Its semi-matte glaze reflects light subtly, especially around the neck. The second vase (21 cm) is compact and bulbous, with a surface finished in golden ochre and muted brown, exhibiting a fine, powdery texture typical of mid-century studio ceramics. The third vase (16 cm), cylindrical with a gentle upward flare, showcases a deep rust-brown glaze with irregular golden mottling, its satiny finish catching light softly. All are in excellent, undamaged condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. These vases embody the freedom and experimental spirit of 1970s German design. The organic shapes, earthy tones, and tactile glazes reflect an era fascinated by material experimentation and bold artistic gesture. The interplay of random speckling and hand-hewn forms evokes the innovative period when studio ceramics embraced sculptural aesthetics, reminiscent of both pop art exuberance and modernist restraint. Grouped together, these vessels seem to exchange a quiet dialogue about nature, matter, and light. The set may be grouped on a large oak console or a minimalist shelf, their sculptural rhythm enhanced when placed side by side. Pairing them with raw ceramics, natural linen or blown glass could emphasize their organic essence
