This set of two Borkum armchairs, designed by Johan Bertil Häggström for IKEA in the 1970s, stands as a striking example of Scandinavian modernism and mid-century modern aesthetics. The structure is based on a stable, bent chrome steel frame with a mirror-like finish, smoothly rounded to form both the legs and armrests in a continuous loop. The seats and backrests feature generously padded, loosely placed cushions upholstered in a soft, synthetic plush/velvet fabric in a subtle light beige shade. The cushions are deeply tufted at the back, lending a distinctive yet restrained decorative accent. The armrests, also upholstered, have a slightly modified contour compared to the original design. The original black supporting fabric underneath the cushions has been preserved, providing both contrast and structural support.
