This set of two EA116 Aluminium Chairs, designed in 1958 by Charles and Ray Eames for Vitra, represents an icon of postwar utilitarian modernism. The construction unites an intensely vivid red genuine leather upholstery in a semi-matte finish with polished aluminum armrests and a four-star swivel base. The seat and high backrest are formed from a single piece of ribbed leather, stretched horizontally between the frame for visual lightness and resilient support. Characteristic horizontal channeling enhances the tactile texture and underscores the modernist aesthetic, while the chair’s proportions—high back, gently sloped seat, and sharply contoured armrests—ensure ergonomic comfort.
