ABOUT PRODUCTID 30168
This ceramic set—a vase and a dish—was designed by Noomi Backhausen and Paul Brandborg for the renowned Danish Søholm manufactory on Bornholm in the 1970s. The set consists of a cylindrical vase (18 x 6 cm) and an asymmetrical, oval dish (15 x 13 x 7 cm), both crafted from ceramic finished in a deep, matte navy blue. The upper part of the dish features a lighter, muted blue-grey hue. Each piece is adorned with stylized, hand-painted botanical motifs in turquoise and muted yellow, outlined with white lines. The hand-painted decoration introduces subtle variations in texture and color intensity, while the organic lines and minimalist approach reflect the spirit of mid-century modern aesthetics. The ceramic surface is smooth, with a slightly grainy touch in lighter areas, and the proportions are harmonious and thoughtfully balanced. The set is preserved in good vintage condition—there are no visible damages, only minor signs of use consistent with age. These pieces echo the quiet voice of Scandinavian design at the turn of the 1970s: Bornholm as a meeting point of restrained modernism and the joy of artisanal creation. The deep matte glaze recalls the sea’s depth, while the turquoise and yellow botanical motifs dance across the surfaces like memories of northern gardens and landscapes. The vase’s form and the asymmetrical dish tell of everyday rituals, where beauty resides in simplicity and discreet expression. The set can serve as a striking accent in both vintage-inspired and contemporary minimalist interiors. It would work well on a wooden console, sideboard, or low table, where the matte ceramic finish meets the natural texture of wood. The pieces may be paired with other mid-century Scandinavian objects—such as a raw
