ABOUT PRODUCTID 17278
The “Pyžamo” set, designed by Jarmila Formánková for Czech manufacturer Ditmar Urbach in 1959, comprises three porcelain pieces: a slender vase (24 cm high), a deep bowl with an organically shaped handle, and a shallow plate with gently rising edges. Each object is crafted from high-quality, creamy-glazed porcelain. The decoration consists of hand-painted, irregular vertical stripes in black, pastel yellow, and soft peach—each unique in width and edge, highlighting the handmade, artisanal aspect of the set. The vessels’ forms are subtly asymmetrical, drawing from modernist 1950s inspirations: the vase tapers smoothly towards its base; the bowl features cut-outs and a dynamically sculpted handle; the plate rises softly at the rim, emphasizing the graphic rhythm of the ensemble. All surfaces are smooth and highly glossy, typical of porcelain from this era. The set remains in good condition, with only minor, scarcely visible traces of age and use. This set resonates with the optimistic modernism of the 1950s—when the Czech Republic drew inspiration from the success of Expo '58, and designers sought new forms and cheerful color combinations. “Pyžamo” recalls the dream of lively mornings and a contemporary everyday: its hand-painted stripes rhythmically climb each piece, creating a stage where daily objects approach the stature of small works of art. Luminous glaze, pastel tones, and organic silhouettes gesture toward an interior world that is at once modern and uplifting. The set can be styled within a mid-century modern environment: placing it among light woods, natural textiles, and a simple desk lamp will highlight
